STEPS TO COMPASSION

CHECK YOUR INTENTIONS: 

What defines my relationship to my work/calling; always be compassionate.

CREATE SELF SPACE: 

Say a prayer or recite a mantra that has meaning for you.

INITIATE PRESENCE: 

Take three deep breaths before moving on to the next issue or person.

TALK AT EYE LEVEL: 

Whether sitting of standing, be at the same level to insure eye contact.

USE NON VERBAL SUPPORTS: 

be mindful of voice, facial expression and touch.

IMAGINE YOURSELF IN THEIR SHOES: 

how would you feel if you were in their situation.

PRACTICE ”TONGLEN”: TONGLEN IS A Tibetan Contemplative Practice of exchanging self for others.

PRACTICE GRATITUDE: 

each evening say a brief prayer of gratitude for being allowed to do
                                           your life and dedicate your life to the benefit of other beings.
